EP 5 - 2 for the price of 1- Hindi Movies

In this episode we talk about those Hindi movies which suffered from the 1st half, 2nd half syndrome, where you came out of the theatres bit bewildered and wondered “did I just get 2 for the price of one?”

Is the Interval (inimical to our cinema) to blame? Or do the makers wish to push all the emotions into one film like they used to declare in film trailers of yesteryear - “Issme action hain, drama hai, romance hai, emotion hai, thrills hain!” In those days they didn’t actually use the word action, they used to just say “issme fight hain!” This point is so well illustrated by Ashuu Trikha and Saurabh Nair in the podcast!

Or is it also what was once famously said by a very well-known film maker “Jab auratein theatre ke andar roti hain, toh producer bahar hasta hai!” (meaning of course that the box-office coffers are clanking while the ladies are reaching for their tissues!) So if the 1st half is mainly comedy then they resort to melodrama in the 2nd, because, well, you have to have the ladies sobbing..

It’s a question which needs answers..

While some films have worked and provided us dollops of entertainment and were liked my many, some do make us wonder why the movie goes off on a completely different tangent post interval..

We’ve picked a few examples which we speak about here and we look forward to our listeners coming up with their own suggestions to add to this…. 😊

The movies we picked for this #podcast are:  #Fan #Ishq Amitabh Bachchan’s #Yaarana  #CheeniKum #Deewangee & #SattePeSatta..
